NANOART Solarplate and Monotype Printmaking - A Microscopic Perspective

NANOART Solarplate and Monotype Printmaking - A Microscopic Perspective

Description - Science has rapidly progressed into sub-atomic space.  It is now possible for magnifying tools to discover images made of sub-atomic particles.  NANOART is microscopic imagery.  Nano-Solarplate Etchingsand/or Nano-Monoprints are works of art depicting natural structures of matter discovered at molecular and atomic scales. These structures are visualized through digital photography and computers, with magnifying tools, telescopes,      scanning electron microscopes, and atomic scales.  The microscopic images are captured, analyzed, creatively       refined, and further processed, utilizing different artistic media and printmaking techniques to convert mic images into original works of art.  The format of this creative course will have high appeal for artists,  craftsmen, educators, humanities, scientists, and technology fields.

Roger E. Hyndman

Roger E. Hyndman, Artist

As a practicing artist I’m striving to find and record a balance between the natural environment and man’s imprint upon the environment. My recent work is focused upon recording the harmony and balance that exists between man’s creative expressions and natures majestic forms and beauty. At times this journey is interrupted by the unexpected and newly discovered creative pursuits. I seek the trail less traveled, searching for the harmony of nature, as an inspiration for the images in my artwork.

Many of my intaglio images focus upon waterfalls and the challenge of creating artwork that catches the movement of water cascading over rock formations, bed rock, and mountain streams. Many of my images record historic sites and the wilderness in New York State, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Images from Tuscany record the rolling hillside, vineyards, olive groves, cyprus trees, and buildings of antiquity.

Travels across the United States have focused upon our rich natural and cultural history, and the native peoples of our country. Travels to Europe have focused upon the culture of Scotland, Fair Isle, Shetland Islands, ancient Greece, Italy, Sicily, and the Medieval and Renaissance periods. The Italian Renaissance and the religious imagery of that period have influenced my creative images. I have found this period in history to be the foundation for the fundamental principles I utilize in my artwork.

In recent years I have moved away from using artistic materials that pose health issues, such as toxins, solvents, pigments, acids, chemicals, and powders. I have explored the use of environmental friendly materials and utilize accepted conservation practices.

I have conducted workshops in Printmaking over the past decade for artists, arts councils, arts organizations, professional organizations, and school districts. I have engaged in artist residencies at arts organizations, colleges,  and regional schools.   I'm partnered with the VIEW (Art Center/ Old Forge, NY), Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, Yates County Arts Center, Mid-Hudson Teacher Center, SUNY New Paltz, Hartwick College, University of New Hampshire, Fletcher Farm School, Touchstone Center for the Arts and Crafts, Sagamore Great Camp, and the Saratoga Arts Council. I have organized and coordinated eight trips to Italy over the past ten years.  The focus has been upon the art, history, and culture of the Medieval and Renaissance time periods, including a two-week artist retreat to Tuscany, residing near Florence at a Medieval Vila built in 1392.  Recent travels have taken me to Italy, Sicily, Scotland, the Shetland Islands, Fair Isle, and France. Several of my recent intaglio prints reflect the influence of my travels across the United States, Europe, and the Tuscan countryside.
